An Ordination Blessing

Last week the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) added a wonderful, gifted, and wise leader to ministry through ordination. I am blessed to have called Rev. Alexis Engelbrecht colleague and am grateful to call her friend. I celebrate all the ways she has and will serve the church and the world through her ministry. While not able to be present in person to lay hands on and bless Alexis and her future ministry, I offered her this ordination blessing which I now share with you.

On this day

the Church proclaims

what God has ordained.

On this day

people affirm

what is divinely true.

You are beloved.

You are gifted.

You are called.

The hands that lay upon your shoulders

convey with love

the weight of your calling.

The mantle placed upon you

is not a burden,

but a blessing.

An outward sign of gifts given,

leadership bestowed,

wisdom honored.

On this day

the Church proclaims

what God has ordained.

May this day, each day,

bring earthly affirmation

of divine truths.

You are beloved.

You are gifted.

You are called.

May the community surrounding you,

grow and expand

in love and support.

May your ministry be a blessing.

A source of compassion and grace,

challenge and teaching.

Outward signs of God within you,

shown in your growth-

past, present, and future.

On this day

the Church proclaims

what God has ordained.

On this day,

we celebrate

what God has always known.

You are beloved.

You are gifted.

You are called.
